Practice an attitude of gratitude for the happiness
You know the saying, “Fake it till you make it?” To create a positive mindset, you may have to pretend you feel it before you can actually feel it! Instead of focusing on the unsatisfying parts of your life, you should take time to be grateful for all of the good in your life. Doing this forces you to think positively and pulls your mind out of a negative mindset. A great way to practice gratitude is to keep a daily gratitude journal, where you can focus on, and be grateful for, the best parts of each day. Being grateful for the blessings in your life helps you create a happy outlook.
Focus on the present
Staying focused on the present allows you to live life at your happiest. Spending your time ruminating on the past or worrying about the future prevents you from loving your life as it is right now. While It’s important to have dreams and goals for the future, it’s also important to make sure that you appreciate all of the current goodness you’re experiencing. Studies have even shown that living in the moment scientifically makes people happier.
Surround yourself with community
Being surrounded by people you love and who love you back is key to building happiness in your life. One of life’s greatest pleasures is sharing experiences with other people. Whether your community is a group of friends or a family, it’s important to find “your people,” and prevent loneliness in your life. If you’re looking to establish a community, consider joining a church, a local sports group, or book club! Find people with similar interests who you can share life with.
Take control of your life
The greatest personal happiness comes when you feel like you are in charge of your life. Make sure you’re making decisions in your life that feel good to you. The author Annie Dillard put it well when she said, “How we spend our days is how we spend our lives.” It’s important to live your days the way you want to! Taking control of your life can mean different things for different people. It might mean saying no more to social obligations or saying yes to pursuing your passions. However taking control of your life looks to you, it will bring you more happiness to feel in charge.
